Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Norberg-Johnson.
Denise, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started DMLLC to offer services to animals and their people, including animal communication and energy work. I had years of training and experience in several industries, including the management of a third generation family business building stairways.
This company is the culmination of a life path that led me to the underlying belief that our journeys are not straight lines. But we are led down many branches that ultimately form a pattern with a single message – we have arrived at exactly the right points in our lives, regardless of how deliberately we planned.
The major component of DMLLC is Animals Know! – my animal communication business, blog, and outreach to bring the lessons animals teach us to as many humans as possible.
Has it been a smooth road?
I am either a Renaissance woman, or a dilettante, and have often lost interest in the jobs I held after a year or so. I felt like I was floundering, trying to find the purpose of my life. Finally, I realized that I was trying to consciously analyze my direction when the truth was that every obstacle or frustration had led me to a better result – whether I failed to receive a job offer, had to close a business, or lost a relationship.
By looking back, I realized that the defining moments of my life were actually “defy-ning” moments – those places where the smallest detail alters the direction of a life journey, regardless of how stubbornly we cling to our logical ideas and goals. Now, the failures are just referenced points on a track that continually reveals surprises that feel right and meaningful.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Defyning Moments, LLC – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The company is a one-person operation right now. I also work as a teacher and writer, but DMLLC is the work I want to do for the rest of my life. My animal sessions include helping people solve problems and build better relationships with companion animals, transition rituals assisting animals to make their “death” transition into spirit form, aromatherapy and energy release to clear emotional blockages and reduce stress and restore balance.
I wrote a book (Defyning Moments: Lessons from an Ordinary Life) about the road that led me to start the company. My second book, to be published in late 2018, is Animals Know! – What Animals Teach Us. I plan to use the book to expand my outreach to animal rescue organizations and advocacy for animal rights issues.
I am most proud of the reaction of people who might initially be skeptical of my ability to communicate with their animals, but realize when they receive the transcript of the session that it has the ring of truth, and they are reassured that they are sensing the needs of their animals already. Bringing harmony to the households of people who are intent on providing safe and loving homes for animals is an honor and a true calling.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Chicago is a vibrant and energetic city, with a rich history of neighborhoods that provided safe harbors for immigrants from many countries. We have wonderful food, compassionate people, and beautiful architecture. Our cultural offerings are magnificent, and there are always unknown wonders to discover – smaller museums, great local restaurants, and events where people gather to share their cultural offerings – music, food, costumes, and values.
What I like least about Chicago? The traffic jams, constant road construction, and the undeserved reputation we seem unable to shake for violence and hatred. That image is perpetuated by the lingering vestiges of the gangsters from last century and the new media’s fascination with gang violence. Our city government needs a major shakeup to rid ourselves of the “machine politics” for which we are famous.
