Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Ruzic.
Dan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Trained as a mechanical engineer and working in the nuclear power industry and then IT for utilities and then management consulting, I jumped at the opportunity to lead a renovation project at my own church. The result was a full historic restoration and placing the building on the National Register of Historic Places.
I then formed Chicago Project Management specifically to assist churches and historical structures through restorations.
15 years later, I have had great satisfaction in helping not-for-profit organizations that would otherwise be unable to accomplish complex restoration and building relocation projects to save or revive significant buildings and architecture.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The techniques required for an accurate historic restoration required connecting with the best craftsmen and technical resources in the Chicago Land area to gain the experience I needed and build the skilled team to work with on increasingly challenging projects.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Chicago Project Management – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I realized that non-profit organizations facing significant historic building issues were very poorly equipped to plan and execute the complex repairs and restorations required to preserve the structures that they hold dear.
We enable these organizations to accomplish their goals by helping them through the planning, fund raising, permitting, bidding and field construction processes.
We can now point to many local historic structures that would not exist or beautifully restored churches that had been suffering from neglect and feel a great since of accomplishment.
I have found that we are the only firm in this unique niche.
If you had to start over, what would you have done differently?
As I approach retirement, my only regret is that I have not found a protégé to turn this firm over to.
