Today we’d like to introduce you to Chad Esslinger.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began my formal design education as an architecture student and soon realized that I wanted to focus on home decor products and interior design. I graduated with a degree in Industrial Design from the University of Illinois and spent almost 20 years designing and developing products for the world’s leading wholesalers, retailers, and manufacturers.
In 2011 I started Chad Esslinger Design, a full-service design firm focusing on residential interior design, decorating and remodeling; as well as design and development of home decor products.
I work with clients all over Chicagoland. From small refreshes of rooms to full-home renovations and new construction. Most of my clients are residential homeowners but I also have some small commercial clients.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I began my business the summer that our third child was born, which on paper sounds like pretty bad timing, but I lined up a couple of steady clients and had the confidence to go for it. As my kids were small I started slow and gradually built the business while also taking care of the household. Today, Chad Esslinger Design is a full-scale firm; a real company! Managing work and family life is a constant balancing act, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Chad Esslinger Design is a full-service design firm focusing on residential interior design, decorating, and remodeling. As owner and designer of Chad Esslinger Design, I am the direct point of contact for my clients, and I will do everything within my power to make sure that they are 100% happy with the end result.
Creating a functional and beautiful living space is a great responsibility that I do not take lightly, as I believe that the home is one’s sanctuary. It is my goal to make my client’s space a place to enjoy with their family and friends for many years to come. I want to always provide innovative ideas, a relentless attention to detail, and a truly enjoyable design process.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was a creative and sensitive, but also competitive and not necessarily a rule follower. I loved art, music, and playing sports. I loved building things with Legos but I wouldn’t read the directions; I made my own creations. I think my love of the creative arts and competitiveness in sports has shaped who I am today: creative and driven.
