Meet Brianne Chaney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianne Chaney.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I grew up in a small town in California, where I graduated with all of the same kids I went to Kindergarten with. I have two wonderful parents who have supported me as I follow my dreams and a sweet older brother who I’ve gotten to watch follow his. I have recently graduated from William Jessup University with my degree in Visual and Fine Arts. Since then, I have been privileged to work as an artist and muralist.

Please tell us about your art.
I am an acrylic artist and a poet. I paint portraits of people with many layers of color with the intention of portraying the many layers of the person. I also paint murals of wonderful and beautiful places so that the people who see them get to feel as if they have escaped to them. My poetry has always been my outlet for all of my thoughts and emotions. They help me walk myself through the way that I feel and then to find the moral or lesson of it all. I have only recently started sharing my poetry, with the hopes that it helps others to feel they are not alone in their thoughts and feelings, and also that it helps give words to those feelings.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
I define success as the meeting of goals. I believe that in a world of social media it is easy to feel unsuccessful when comparing yourself to others across the world. It can be very discouraging to watch the success of others who are further along than you, but I think that it is so important to focus on setting your own goals and working hard to meet them and to be doing so constantly. I think that success does not point that you reach as an artist and land there, I think that success is the eternal drive of the artist to continue to explore new things and reach new goals.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I have a majority of my work on my website briannechaney.com. It would be a joy to have people visit my website, buy my prints and or follow me on my Instagram @briannechaney.
