Today we’d like to introduce you to Benjamin Szentpaly.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I started getting into photography after a friend of mine in TV Production class recommended I get a DSLR for videos to make in class. She was also doing photoshoots on the side, but I never thought about trying the same thing until after high school. I was mainly using my DSLR for making news packages and client video work. I had my first actual photoshoot with a friend from my supermarket job back in 2016. Many photoshoots and a camera upgrade later, here I am now with a portfolio I’m decently proud of. I keep photography on the side as something I do for fun while I major in Computer Engineering at the University of South Florida.
Please tell us about your art.
A typical photoshoot involves meeting with a model at a central location and driving around for a couple of hours, jumping in and out of our cars whenever we see a cool spot. 5+ locations is a normal occurrence. It’s a really fun way to explore and interact with the environment. Getting to know each model and having a fun time together is what makes each photoshoot memorable.
Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
The best thing I can recommend when it comes to artwork is not to do it for money. If you have to work and don’t have much time to do what you love, do your best to do what you are passionate about at least once each week.
There are many other ways to make money off of your artwork than charging people individually for your work. Be creative and try to find ways to make money passively so that you can keep doing what you love.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I post mainly on Instagram, but also have a pretty large following on Twitter as well.
A great way to support my work is to either buy my monthly Lightroom preset packs or become a patron on Patreon. Patrons receive the preset packs at midnight on the first of every month.
