Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Raisman.
Becky, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been singing since elementary school, did choir from elementary through college. I took voice lessons with private teachers and in college. I went to Columbia College Chicago got a Bachelor of Arts degree class of 2007 great school for the arts. I took some music classes, keyboard 1, techniques in singing, choir, Jazz/Pop choir, and took acting classes. When I was a student at Columbia I got to sing in a lot of shows such as Student Concert Series, sing at the Auditorium Theatre for college open house, Manifest (a big arts festival that Columbia College Chicago puts on at the end of the year) at Buddy Guy Legends and was part of Columbia College Singers Alliance. When I left Columbia I was in singing contests, karaoke, doing open mics. I take piano/keyboard Lessons and did School of Rock adult band and voice lessons I even did Singer’s Spotlight and Chick Singers Night. I also do stand-up comedy, I started doing stand-up in at Annoyance theatre in May of 2017, was in a showcase, went to some open mics at Laugh Factory, took another class at Improv Playhouse and was in another showcase. I’ve also done a lot of extra work for TV and movies and I hope to get speaking parts 🙂 I hope to get my big break. I can go on and on what I’ve done.
Has it been a smooth road?
I mean Yeah there is a lot of rejection but I keep going. It took me six years to earn my degree at Columbia College Chicago I went 2000-2007.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Becky – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Well, I sing, play keyboards, do stand-up comedy, acting. I’ve been going to open mics since 2010, took a break, then started up again, been in singing contests. I do more than singing, I play keyboards, I’ve done extra work, I even took Comedy Writing online classes through Second City, took improv classes, I guess I like to explore and try new things.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I lover the culture, great music, and comedy scene, tons of open mics, restaurants and people are very friendly. I’m also a huge Chicago sports fan. I don’t like all the bad press the city been getting like crime and corruption. We need more love and hugs.
