Today we’d like to introduce you to Ann-Marie Bergman.
Ann-Marie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
30 + years ago I was in high school and was asked to come and work for this engineering firm as part of the work study program. My assignments have been many and vast. I started as a gopher, getting lunches, answering phones and running errands to pick up plans and contracts. After high school, I joined the administrative staff, answering phones, doing word processing, on a typewriter and learning how to integrate a computer into our work space. After college, I continued in the Administrative Dept. and joined the Accounting Dept. working my way through learning about timesheets to spreadsheets and then on to budgeting. Growing with the company I did sales for our data collection equipment and then moved on to Marketing our services and products.
Today as one of the Vice Presidents, I am the head of the Administrative and Marketing areas of the business. I look forward too many years to come as we continue to change and grow in this engineering consulting industry.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a bumpy path, both of learning and changes. The President sold the company for a while to a large engineering firm. I left to at that time and went to another engineering firm. After learning many new skills in a different type of engineering venue the President asked me to come back when he bought the firm back. I have learned, grown and had up/downs throughout my time here. It has helped me deal with customers in a more effective way and helped me to make changes within our own practices to make us run smoother and more efficient.

Traffic Engineering Service’s name defines the specialty work that we provide as a small firm to County, City, Village, Town, other consultants, insurance companies, attorneys and WisDOT in the data collection, analysis, design, specification, PS&E, construction and expert witness related services.
Our focus is on – traffic design studies, traffic engineering design, traffic engineering operations and maintenance, outdoor lighting systems and traffic data collection / analysis.
Since we are a small firm we are known for giving each client individualized attention and personalized services to help fulfill their needs.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was a bookworm and always on my bike. Being shy, I loved diving into a book and living the story. Thankfully my parents gave me the opportunity to try many things; ballet, piano, swimming, teaching, tennis, and Girl Scouts. Through my many experiences I learned to adapt into many different situations.
