Thanks for sharing your story with us Althea. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Prior to opening my professional coaching business, I worked as a corporate CPA for 9 years. I am always asked how did you get from there to here. The short version is, I was your typically corporate employee at the pinnacle of my professional accounting career, who felt stuck, bored and unfulfilled at work and in my career. I was dragging myself to work each day and leaving mentally and energetically exhausted because I was no longer challenged or excited by my work. I knew I was wasting my gifts, talents and definitely not utilizing my true leadership abilities.
I didn’t want my boss’ job, or my boss’ boss’ job. What I did want, was a career that was I excited about and energized by, and that aligned with innate gifts and strengths and God’s purpose for my life, where I was making a positive impact doing meaningful work that I love. At the same time, I was also facing a really difficult time in my personal life as I had just returned back home to the Chicago-area from Washington, DC to be a caregiver for my dad, who had been diagnosed with a terminal disease.
I decided to pursue my Masters degree in Organization Development with a concentration in Leadership Development from Loyola Chicago University, while still working and for the first time in my academic and professional life, ‘A’ grades came easily. I discovered that what I had been studying on my own in my twenties, topics such as personal &professional growth, spiritual growth, change and transformation, leadership development was what I was learning in graduate school. I began to understand why me working as a CPA in a Big 4 accounting firm was not the best fit for me…
I went on to receive my professional coaching training and credentialing from the Coaches Training Institute. I then hired and worked with a professional coach who helped me navigate my radical career change and launch my business. Soon after I decided to step out on faith and leave that position and career path behind and embrace a completely new career as a Professional Coach, business owner and entrepreneur.
Now I’m a highly sought-after Business Success Coach and Mentor working with clients globally. I’ve helped hundreds of entrepreneurs and executives increase their incomes doing meaningful work they love and couldn’t be more fulfilled and happier in my profession. I know that I’m doing the work that God called me to do.
Has it been a smooth road?
In some ways the road has been very smooth and in other ways it’s been very rocky.
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is not having a community of other entrepreneurs to lean on and be supported by when I first started out. People who “got what it means to start and run your own business” and then also not having a community of other Christ-centered entrepreneurs.
It’s one reason why that I created the Christ-Centered Female Entrepreneurs and Business Leaders Facebook Group. I know how difficult it can to be not have a community of like-minded entrepreneurs and how necessary it is to have a tribe to succeed.
Remember, I left my position at PricewaterhouseCoopers in August of 2004. Leaving a high-paying corporate position at that time to start your own business doing meaningful work you were called to do was almost unheard of at that time.
I also faced the normal fears and self-doubts that most entrepreneurs face. I struggled with fully trusting and believing in God and my God-given vision. Because of this I personally know how paralyzing fear and unbelief can be for entrepreneurs. It’s why mindset is an area that I help my clients experience a breakthrough in.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love our summers! There is nothing like #summertimechi with our street festivals, outdoor concerts and movies, and one of my favorites SummerDance at the Spirit of Music Garden. I’m in nature lover, so also love our lakefront, the Garfield Park Conservatory and the Chicago Botanic Garden. And all the arts and culture that we have access to in our city.
I least like our violence and homicide rates, that Chicago is one of the most segregated cities in the country, and that many working class residents have been “tossed out” of their city neighborhoods to be replaced with better tax revenue dollars.
