Today we’d like to introduce you to Aga Kaskiewicz.
Aga, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been doing makeup for last 19 years and working in all fields of this industry gave me a great understanding that it’s not just about applying perfect foundation or a lipstick, it’s about how I make my clients feel. Having an art school background from my home country Poland, let me fall in love with color and texture. Getting my makeup education (still continue taking classes when and where I can) in Los Angeles or New York, I bring my clients effortless chic and a red carpet glam anytime they need it. After working for big companies three years ago, I decided to go full time on my own and created Makeup by Aga – commercial, editorial, fashion and Bridal by Aga – luxury make up services locally and globally. Around that time, with the help of amazing mentors, I started getting involved more in our artists community, creating help and support groups for younger artists, become an educator to share my knowledge and unique approach to business and life in general. While continuously working on my craft (New York Fashion Week is a must on my calendar) and being passionate workaholic, I love my Chicago roots and loyal clients.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Of course not, I don’t think for anyone in a creative field, the road to success is easy or smooth. It’s very competitive business especially in a last few years, you have to be current with trends, new products, and compete against YouTube and Instagram artists.
It’s a full-time job (besides taking care of your clients) to make sure you are visible in your market. On the other hand, having years of experience, authenticity, integrity and passion and what do you do, helps to overcome all the challenges.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Makeup and Bridal by Aga – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Being a make-up artist for so many years made me realize how much I love what I do, my favorite hashtag is #itsnotajobitsalifestyle, and yes, I pretty much live and breathe make up.
Being able to assist my clients either during the photo shoot or a video or on their wedding day, not only with my talent but with my calm energy, has been one of the things I’m very proud of. One of my specialties is airbrush makeup, over the years, I have been upgrading my equipment (right now it’s cordless, battery- less device, I take pretty much everywhere with me) and formulas to find the one I love, and right now I can create either long – lasting flawless complexion or perfect tattoo coverage within minutes. I’m known for my attention to details and willingness to always go an extra mile for my clients, need makeup at 3 am, no problem, need a full day wedding service? no problem, quality versus quantity, it’s my business motto. For my bridal client’s my objective is to create an experience instead of just a makeup application, we meet more than one time, design her look together going of her wedding gown, her flowers, invitations, it all matters & it’s a very special time. Love every minute of it.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
How can you not like Chicago?! We have so much to offer, from amazing skylines (perfect for engagement or wedding photos), lakefront right in the middle of downtown and so much greenery. And our restaurants are one of the best in the country. We also have amazingly talented people living in Chicago, I get to work what best of the best vendors in our industry.
Want to dislike? About eight months of cold weather, lol. But I grew up in Poland so this doesn’t phase me at all too. I love my city and people who live here.
