Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Justice.
Adam, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2003, Grid Connect, Inc. was founded by my father, Mike Justice. Grid Connect is a leader in high-quality networking product manufacturing, distribution and support.
In addition to being ISO 9001:2008 certified, Grid Connect makes many of the products they sell, offering customized solutions to best fit client and consumer needs. By utilizing its available hardware, software and cloud capabilities, Grid Connect is able to quickly turn around customized engineering and OEM projects. Because Grid Connect was already helping connect others to the Internet of Things (IoT), I figured, why can’t we do that for ourselves?
In 2013, Grid Connect introduced the ConnectSense line of Wi-Fi and cloud-based sensors to the Internet of Things marketplace. These sensors are designed to offer peace-of-mind through DIY home and business automation. The newest product to be integrated into the ConnectSense family is the Smart Outlet. With success from the sensors and Smart Outlet, we are now scheduled to release some brand new, and second-generation products later this year.
In addition, we have recently introduced our IoT 80/20 service to companies looking to get their products connected to the IoT quickly and affordable. The combination of hardware, software and cloud solutions from ConnectSense provides a full end-to-end solution to meet consumer and business needs and connect devices to the Internet of Things.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Building hardware is hard. Our goal is to make it easier for other companies to build the hardware they need to satisfy their customers. As we have tackled each new hardware project, there are always struggles to learn and develop the technology properly. Nonetheless, these struggles lead to us learning something new each time which, in turn, helps our clients.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with ConnectSense – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
ConnectSense’s IoT 80/20™ platform helps device manufacturers and OEMs quickly and affordably enable their products for the Internet of Things. The 80% is the common functionality needed by all customers, a reusable solution provided by ConnectSense, and the remaining 20% is customized for each individual product/OEM.
This greatly reduces initial investment and speeds up time to market. IoT 80/20 is based on the Amazon Web Service (AWS) platform, which has low monthly fees and can easily scale up as product sales improve.
In addition, IoT 80/20 includes common firmware for Wi-Fi modules and a core app for Android and Apple iOS. We are proud to truly be a one-stop-shop for all of our clients’ needs. This keeps them from having to work with several different companies to build just one product because we have the expertise of what it takes to get an IoT product to market all under one roof.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the past, ConnectSense has primarily been a manufacturer of consumer goods, such as our sensors and smart outlets. However, now and in the future, we are more focused on helping other companies achieve what we have with our products. There will definitely be a shift in the future to focus on this B2B side of our business more, but we won’t be abandoning making our own, smart products either!
