Meet Adam Belmares of Adam Belmares Caricatures in Romeoville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Belmares.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Drawing has always been my passion!!! I draw when I am bored, when I am happy, when I am sad and when I am angry. In other words, I’m always drawing! I pursued further artistic studies at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. What drew me to the academy (drum snare) was the fact that Alex Ross, a well-known artist in the comic book industry, attended and graduated from the academy. I loved the teachers and the experience while attending the academy. It was there, that I was first introduced to a caricature class taught by Mr. Lothar Speer. Upon graduation Mr. Speer offered me a position as an independent contractor to work with him at one of Chicago’s biggest tourist attractions, Navy Pier, working on a part time basis.

It wasn’t until my wife, who worked as a high school teacher, was laid off due to the lack of school funding that forced them to shut down the ESL program. After facing financial struggles and taking on whatever jobs we could find to make ends meet, we decided to take this caricature “thing” to a full time basis and beyond. We started our company, built caricature entertainment services and incorporated custom made gift products for weddings, corporations and families.

With my beautiful wife beside me working as my right hand and brains, we have created a business service that we are proud to call our family business. Our children have contributed with their talents of video making skills and created our promotional videos. It has been a challenging road, but highly rewarding allowing us to find the balance that we were looking for in our lives. We homeschool our children and spend more time together as a family. Together we strive to fulfill our mission: Making the world laugh one face at a time!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest challenge was the learning curve involved in running a business, but at the same time it is also what makes it the most fun.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Adam Belmares Caricatures story. Tell us more about the business.
We specialize in making people laugh! We do this through our live caricature entertainment services drawn by “Speedy Belmares”. (His last tracked record has been 32 people drawn in one hour).

We also provide one of a kind custom hand painted caricature mugs and glasses. Our clients complement us as they are impressed by our professionalism, personal service and thorough correspondence. We simply practice what we believe should be the base of every good business.

What can we say? We love what we do.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
More of a disguise blessing than luck is how I would perceive it. The fact that my wife was out of a job pushed us toward the direction we are in now and it has been highly fulfilling.
