Today we’d like to introduce you to Tavi Johnson.
Tavi, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In my circle of friends, I’m known as the go-to person for new restaurants, events, activities, etc… I work in finance and my job wasn’t fulfilling my creativity needs. On the suggestion of a friend (shout out to Trisha Hunt) I started Yelping in my free time (Tavij.yelp.com). Random people would reach out to me on Yelp looking for more details or suggestions on what they can do when they come to town. In September 2015, with the help of my sister (Tosha Johnson), I started my Chicago Lifestyle Blog Chi@Glance (A.K.A. Chiataglance). I wanted my blog to focus on positive aspects of Chicago. Once a month, I do Spotlight features called: “A Chicagoan YOU should know” where I highlight an individual from various industries in Chicago. Chi@Glance truly covers ALL things Chicago related from restaurant openings, expo’s, gala’s, community engagement. You name it… if it’s Chicago related we cover it. I got to where I am with determination and TONS on Networking.
Has it been a smooth road?
To be honest, it has been a smooth road and one of the reasons it’s been that way is because I took my time. People were encouraging me to start a blog 2 years before I started it. I only do things when the time feels right to me. When I started Chi@Glance (www.chiataglance.com), I had so many connections behind me that getting invited to events or finding topics to cover was pretty easy. I know a lot of people say you should just get started, but in an oversaturated market you really need to nail down how you can set yourself apart from other people. At the same time, you need to remain true to yourself and your craft. I truly have a love for Chicago and knew starting a Chicago Lifestyle Blog was the way to go for me. I enjoy attending events, meeting new people, and writing is a passion for me.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Chi@Glance AKA Chiataglance – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a Chicago Lifestyle Blogger and a social media influencer. I cover ALL things related to Chicago from fashion, restaurant openings, events, expo’s, non-profits, etc. I post once a week on a variety of topics and once a month I do spotlight features highlighting a Chicagoan YOU should know. I would like to consider myself the “go to” person on all things Chicago related. I conduct reviews on new restaurants that haven’t opened to the public yet. I attend and report on various industries whether it be Chicago Gourmet, Luxe Home Design Summit or the Midwest Face and Body Expo. If it’s Chicago related and I think my readers would find it interesting, I attend and report on the event. I work with several PR firms and Marketing personnel to use my blog to showcase various Chicago services/industries.
Who have you been inspired by?
I’ve been inspired by so many women. It all began with my mother (Pearlean Johnson) who has always been an inspiration in my life and my backbone as I navigate life. My sister (Tosha Johnson) is also a huge inspiration. Outside of my family, I have many friends (Crystal, Nicole, Trisha, Eden, Syreeta, Jenny, Ashley…) to name a few that are high power women at their companies. I also have interviewed many inspirational women for my Chicagoan You should know Spotlight features (Media Personality Showbiz Shelley, Media Personality Loni Swain, Chicago Food and Drinks Writer Audarshia Townsend, and countless more….)
