Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Leggero.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Tara. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I struggled with acne as a teen, and still fight a battle with it as an adult. As a teen with low self-esteem, I went to a dermatologist after dermatologist and tried literally every oral and topical prescription available (including Accutane), with little improvement. The most frustrating thing about that process is that nobody would ever explain to me how to actually take care of my skin or the ingredients I should look for. I’d just simply get a prescription that would dry my skin out and make it look worse. I was frustrated and wanted to learn about how to take care of my skin for the long term. This was before social media (and even google if I’m being honest), so I had to go to school for it. I found so many other people were in need of help just like me.
Ever since, I have found a true passion for helping others achieve their skin goals, and have a better understanding of skincare in general.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Building your brand and clientele is hard! Some days, I wasn’t busy at all, and it would make me question my entire existence. I didn’t give up, though because this is what I truly love. I fought for it and continued to work hard through the slow periods.
My advice for someone starting out is to dedicate your downtime to building your business. Reach out to people, make connections. Your success is up to you and only you. If you truly love what you do, and continue to work hard and be authentic, success will come!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with SpaDerma – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am an Aesthetician working in a medical spa. I specialize in custom skincare treatments and work with all skin types and conditions. I truly listen to my patient’s skin care goals and tailor each treatment to what they need to achieve those goals. I offer a variety of treatments and products and can work with all budgets and timelines. I strive to be transparent and to deliver the best results while maintaining realistic expectations.
There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
Meet as many people as you can, and be their friend! Go to events, support other people in other businesses. Connect on social media, and find a circle of truly supportive people you can collaborate with.
My biggest mentor started as a client. She has been so supportive, motivating, and just a true role model. I love her dearly and want to be just like her.
