Today we’d like to introduce you to Mehwish Khalid.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Mehwish. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up seeing my mom looking glamorous every day. I never saw her without eyeliner and always admired the fact that she was always so put together. That first sparked my interest in makeup and glamming up my friends and family. I got a friend of mine ready for some of her wedding events, which lead to several people asking me to do theirs as well. Long story short, I put everything on hold and decided to follow my passion. Despite the fact that I hold a degree in biochemistry, and was set on going to pharmacy school, I went to a makeup school instead to follow my passion and loving every moment of it.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The process was pretty smooth for the most part, I have to always make sure that my customer service is on point. I still remember how I broke my arm one summer, but instead of canceling on my clients, I got the brides ready with one hand. The best advice I can give to anyone is to have patience and go above and beyond for your clients. This is especially important when you are first starting off. You will be surprised how many clients you will get just from the first few you work with. As cliche as it sounds, follow your passion. If your heart is set on something, do it. Work hard and honestly, and it’ll all fall into place.
Please tell us about MakeupbyMehwish.
I am a freelance makeup artist with 8 years of experience in different genres, specializing in bridal makeup. I now have my own eyelash company as well. I believe what sets me apart is the fact that I make sure to listen to my clients and give them what they are looking for, yet still encouraging them to push boundaries and try something they would have never thought of otherwise. Its all about happy medium and a happy client.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Growing up with 6 siblings really taught me to work for what I want. Nothing was just handed to me, and that definitely played a big part in my work ethics.
