Today we’d like to introduce you to Desirée Velásquez.
Desirée, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my blog back at the end of 2013 while I was living abroad in Madrid, Spain.
I created it as a way to share a little about me and my time abroad with all of my loved ones – who are scattered across the globe. I also created it as a creative outlet to share my fashion experiences and observations, which were at the time very fixed on European fashion and street style influences.
I am not technologically savvy, so saying that creating the space was a challenge is quite an understatement. The hardest part about creating the space was transmitting my vision and style across in the design. Given that creating the blog was difficult, the blog design itself and formatting any HTML coding felt nearly impossible for me. Little by little, I learned how to build my space and customize it along the way. Despite all of those efforts, I think that I’ll always consider the space a work in progress. I’m always changing, so it only makes sense that my space will, too.
The blog is definitely a labor of love. There are times when it feels like never ending work, but I really enjoy it all. It’s a beautiful hobby that has facilitated new friendships, helped me gain access to extraordinary events and helped me really delve into my passion for fashion.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Juggling a blog and a full-time job can be tricky. Time management is HUGE. I admittedly am not the best at managing my time, so it’s always a skill that I am working on. I recommend that you keep everything organized to avoid becoming overwhelmed with an agenda full of events, blog deadlines, your 9-5 workload and personal business. I always find it helpful to surround myself with people who are motivated and positive. I find that their vibes inspire me to make improvements and work harder.
Please tell us about www.fashionlingual.com.
I’m a local Latina fashion blogger. My favorite area of focus is style. I always find myself observing what the people around me wear. I love to see how they incorporate trends into their everyday life. On the blog, I show snapshots of my personal style (which I’d describe as highly influenced by European fashion), give styling tips, talk trends and share fashion experiences. Through the blog, I’ve had women approach me and ask for styling help. It’s rewarding to see how a woman’s confidence instantly increases with a flattering look.
