Today we’d like to introduce you to Mo G.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I remember sitting on the bed after asking everyone how to braid and no one taught me. I sat there with a Barbie doll until I figured it out myself. I was 3 years old. I quickly learned how to do my own hair, starting with two braids. Shortly after that, I began to cornrow and from then on I’ve consistently been doing hair. It truly a love of mine and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. Over the years, I have seen over 500 clients, someone which have been with me since day one in 2000/2002. Most recently, I received my natural hair license, followed by gaining a very influential clientele in the city of Chicago.
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t a been a smooth road. A struggle of mine is overworking myself because I love braiding so much. It can take a toll on my body sometimes. My advice for young women would be to believe in yourself and never give up!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Mo G story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m a hair artist who has been specializing in natural hair for 16 years. I am known for my creative protective styles and the art that I create with hair. What sets me apart from others is my ability to envision something and bring it into reality in a way that only I can. I’m most proud of my persistence in taking my gifts to the next level. It’s been a phenomenal journey to see my work grow and I can’t wait to see what’s next!
Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
My advice on finding a mentor would be to network and genuinely get to know people. It’s all about having a true connection with the people you surround with.
