Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Martinez.
Adam, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Pursuing music was inevitable for me considering I had musicians on both my father and mother’s side of the family. In fact, my father was the lead singer and bass player for his band named “Los Aristocratas de Chicago”, which was considerably famous during the 70s for playing a variety of popular Spanish genres. Unfortunately for me, I only learned of this once he passed away of cancer when I was just 9 years old. This sparked a never-ending fire in my soul that motivates me to this day to walk the same path he did and pursue a professional music career. Honestly, I didn’t have much of a voice like he did when I started. However, what I did have was a good ear for melodies and harmonies, which was my foundation for beginning to create my own original music. It took getting my heart broken in high school to finally write a good enough song that made my friends and family take notice of my talents. It took years and years to cultivate my voice, songwriting, and guitar playing skills, but I never stopped, and that’s what got me here today.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I compose, produce, write, play, and sing original Pop/R&B music with the help of a program called Reason. There are many reasons why I create, but what ranks highest on that list is, simply, because I love doing it. Not only is creating a song from nothing one of the most satisfying and accomplished feelings in the world, it’s almost like a therapy. Sometimes it’s difficult to express my feelings, sad or happy, but it somehow becomes effortless putting it into a melody with some beautiful guitar chords behind it. I honestly cannot even sit still and enjoy life without writing a new song every couple of weeks, making it both a blessing and a curse – but it’s a feeling that I wouldn’t trade for the world. One of my favorite things that results from creating a song is when someone messages me to tell me that my music helped them get through a difficult time in their life or that it simply puts them in a good mood after a long day. I put my heart and soul into every song that I make, always hoping there are people out there who will relate to my music the way I do when I’m creating it, and to see that come to fruition means the world to me.
What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
Success means something different for everybody, and I certainly believe there are different levels to success as well. It can be something as small as finally writing that second verse that has been haunting you all month, or something as big as getting contacted your dream record label. The same characteristic that threads both of those successes to their ends, however, is patience. As most people probably know, it is not an easy task to become a successful musician, and you will absolutely not make it without being patient and remembering that timing is everything. I believe the biggest mistake artists all around the world make is not trusting the process and the time that it takes to get to where you want to be. To my friends and family, I’ve been going at this for nearly a decade, and some of them might believe I can give out at any time now. To me, I’m just beginning. I look at the road behind me and know that there is much, much more pavement I have to walk across before seeing any of my hard work manifest into something I can deem as a “success”. Keep your eye on the prize, no matter how long it takes, and I truly believe that it will one day become yours.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
There are many websites where people can check out my work, including YouTube, SoundCloud, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and coming soon will be streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music when I release my debut EP later this year, they can support me simply by following any of my social media @adamthesinger (I follow back!) or just by listening to the songs & covers I currently have out.
