Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephan Cox.
Stephan, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I attended college for painting and printmaking, but was drawn out of curiosity to the hot glass studio next door. I began watching, then doing, and eventually the tricky molten material took over my life. I have now been an artist working in glass, a designer, and a fabricator for 40 years. I continue my study of color, form, texture, and light.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I design outlandish sculptural shapes, then hand blow and form the various elements I need, then hand carve many of these elements. I construct and bond the pieces according to plan using state-of-the-art adhesives and industrial silicone. My sculptures are often quite colorful, gestural, and organic and viewers tend to see – among other things – insects, aliens, botanicals, and sea forms. My latest work are a series of mythical men and beasts.
In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
Finding a consistent market. The art business is in constant flux due mostly to the internet.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I market my work mainly at Art Fairs targeting an international clientele.
