Art & Life with Spencer Rogers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Spencer Rogers.

Spencer, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
A lifetime of creativity is my story.

I was educated at the University of San Diego with a study abroad semester studying drawing and photography at the Art Institute of Florence, Post grad I played guitar, wrote music and songs, performing as lead guitarist and vocalist with bands based in Los Angeles. Graphic art and design were vital to promote these endeavors. I taught myself to use the computer to make art.

After my son was born, I moved back home to Chicago where my wife and I started a photography company. Meanwhile I began to explore the relationship between these various energies, and discovered a way to combine them to create artwork.

Sound, color, and movement unite in the paintings I create. I use sound energy to inspire movement in myself, then translate my experience into the paintings. The result of this simultaneous fusion of energies with intuition and fearless action soon revealed to me the healing power of my process. I learned I was not only making art, but healing myself, finding peace.

Recently I built a place for further exploration of this. People who understood what I was discovering appeared on my path, and I learned that a community of likeminded people is emerging and growing in Chicago. Edenhurst Studio, my gallery, a place for coming together around art, health, and healing, is becoming a gathering place. I’m inspired by this.

I also have a line of fine art photography work centered on deeper inspection of the paintings. Capitalizing on my digital photography experience and using state of the art equipment, I am able to capture the finest details of my paintings that when enlarged and displayed reveal a world that could otherwise be overlooked.

I am a human being, a man, a husband, father, and artist. Like my work, I am many rolled into one.

How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
Art is judged by the execution of its purpose. An artist is judged by the purpose he chooses. Success as an artist I define as executing art so as to be valuable enough to sustain constant focus and limit distractions.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My work is on display at Edenhurst Studio at 2415 W. Barry in Chicago. People can support my work by purchasing it, and by telling other people about it. 🙂
