Today we’d like to introduce you to RenO Franczek.
RenO, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I grew up in Calumet City, which is located between Chicago and Gary. I’ve been working in Healthcare and in the Arts for almost 20 years now. At an early age, I was diagnosed with arthritis and began to use art as a way to express my fears and emotions in relation to this. Now I’m concentrating on making sculpture, music, and paintings and I hope to collaborate with other artists in my community.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I’m working on a bunch of new paintings mainly in acrylic that emphasize color and line. In addition, I’ve been working on multiple collages that incorporates the artwork of my friends along with my own. Working together with others to make art is fascinating. We dialog, critique, express, and create. We’re interested in making work that is positive and unique for our communities in the future.
Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
Financial success is about learning a skill or skills. It can be related or unrelated to the arts. There’s so much to learn about these days in regards to applied arts or navigating the world of digital technology. If you can find a good person to mentor you, take that person and yourself seriously.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
At the moment, the best place to see my work is on our website www.BridgesToBronzeville. The site includes visual art and audio art from people who live or work in Chicago. The site serves as a platform for others to connect and collaborate. In the future we plan to sell art and prints plus inform the community about future gatherings or exhibits.
