Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelli May-Krenz.
Kelli, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
“Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always loved to create, draw, paint and stitch, and I knew I would be a graphic designer.
Since graduating from Iowa State University with a degree in Fine Art and Graphic Design, I’ve lived and worked in Dallas, Minneapolis and Siesta Key, Florida, with clients from all over the world.
These days, I live in Galena, Illinois with my hubby and muse – our Jack Russell Terrier named Pearl Button.
For me, creating is like breathing – I simply do it.
My mission is to continue making art that reflects my core belief – that all great things are possible.”
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I see the world in layers of textures, colors, details and stories; hope cheerfulness and wonder.
I find meaning and discovery in the littlest of moments.
Sitting down with simple supplies, I move pieces around, taking time to notice the details.
Noticing helps me know when a piece is complete.
This exploration shows me my own authenticity again and again.
Art is my soul – filling place and I go to it each day.
I have started teaching online classes. Stitching layers, painting layers, illustration all form of art.
I teach by exploring techniques that are mindfully healing.
Expressing feelings, using papers, paints, threads and words.
I have the gift of showing others how to put away self- judgement and create from a spirit-filled, peaceful place.
My mission is to share inspiration, pouring positive messaging into my art. Filling others up with magic that can be found by learning to notice how blessed we are to live each day.
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
My advice would be to start looking at other artist who inspire you on social media. Reach out to these artists with a personal message talking about how their art inspires you. Look for kindred souls that you connect with, this can take time, be patient.
Go to art openings around you and travel to (if you can) Like souls with gather together at openings. Long lasting friendships can be nurtured and found.
Read blogs about things that interest you as an artist. Ask your artist friends to invite you to group get togethers.
Start your own monthly art group. Gather some friends together and get involved in your local community.
Go to art shows, museums, book signings by artists.
There are so many ways to connect to other artists. Show up and you will be surprised with the friends just waiting to meet someone like you.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
