Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Plancon.
Michael, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My wife and I decided to start our own flooring company in 2011, I had been working on floors since I was 20 years old and work got really slow. We were starting our family and I wanted to be able to provide for them without worrying each week if I would be working or not. The first year was tough of course, we were so excited when we landed our first big job that winter. We tried to advertise on various websites and with our Chamber of Commerce, but over the years referrals really helped us grow our business, I always stand by my work and want to make sure our customers are really happy with their floors. I think our customers recognize how much I actually care about the quality of my work and the quality products I use, I approach every job as it was my own home. My wife really helps with back end of the company, she helped give me the confidence to go off on my own and is a key player in our success. I think we make a pretty good team, I am really proud of the business we have built together and we really hope to continue to grow.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The first year was really tough, we really didn’t have that many jobs in the beginning, and we were still learning all the ins and outs of running a business. We learned the struggle of running a legit business that is fully insured and how expensive insurance for our industry is, after making a few adjustments we have really gotten in a good grove.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Good Wood Flooring & Carpentry, LLC – what should we know?
Our business specializes in hardwood flooring (installing, repairs and refinishing) and sport surfaces. On a daily basis we also use a top of the line finish (Bona Traffic), to really give our customers the very best floor. I think the care that goes into our work really sets us apart, and using the higher end finish helps too. We just upgraded our vacuum system to one of the best portable dust containment systems that really helps reduce the dust.
We are also certified to apply one of the strongest and lowest VOC finishes on the market (WearMax). It is made of tiny ceramic particles making it the most durable finish out there.
We pride ourselves in transforming floors that may be in horrible condition to look like new. Being able to build basketball courts from start to finish is really cool for us too and seeing it all come together with the different logos. Honestly, I am really proud of the quality of work we provide.

Our customers are awesome, they really have helped grow our business by telling their friends about us. We are really grateful to all our family and friends for their support while we grow our business, and of course for all their referrals. I really have to give credit to my dad too for instilling a strong work ethic in me while growing up. And I was really lucky while I was an apprentice to be put on crews with great mentors/journeymen that each taught me different perspectives and tricks of the trade.
