Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Howard.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Well, started with my expulsion from high school followed closely by a felony. My uncle took me and said “you’re going to work in my shop and learn how to weld and fabricate.”
I grew to love doing metal work more and more and always dreamed of owning my own “Mobile Welding” business.
After my uncle’s shop closed, I took several jobs as a laborer doing demolition all the while doing welding repairs as a side business. As the years went on my dream to own my own business grew stronger and stronger until I decided to just do it. So, I did!
It was incredibly difficult living $40 dollars an hour job behind to pursue my dream, but I did, and haven’t looked back since.
My business specializes in cell tower repair, water tower repair, heavy equipment repair, lots of railing repair and new construction and on and on and on. I truly enjoy every day and have no regrets. I owe a lot of this to my wife who’s supported me every single step of the way.
I take pride in being able to show up to a job and have the knowledge and means to do a good quality job every time….
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Never a smooth road, but who wants to take the smooth road… that’s not adventures nor will you achieve true success unless you fail over and over again, but giving up is not an option!
There are many struggles such as acquiring insurance, various expensive certifications, under bidding jobs and knowing you’re going to lose money but you’ve still have to get the job done right, trying and still trying to acquire financing to build my business. I’ve made big investments in advertising only to learn that word of mouth is the best advertising ever! There’s so much more, I could go on and on. Bottom line, you will get your rear end handed to you many many times, and when you get knocked down, seriously get right back up and keep pushing forward. Never stop and never accept no for an answer.
Mobile Welding LLC – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in treating EVERYONE with kindness and respect no matter how big or small a job may be. But my big money maker is doing cell tower and water tower welding repairs, there’s not many people or businesses that will climb 200 feet in the air and weld, but I do and I love it.
I’m most proud because I started it, all by myself…. I didn’t buy it or inherit it, I started it.
I am very well known for having the ability to weld any kind of metal anywhere at any time. For example, cast engine blocks.
Also what sets me apart is that I’m honest, kind, and will always have a conversation with anyone. I am a people person and love it.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Getting my “circa certified rescue climbing certification.”
