Today we’d like to introduce you to Eirene Heidelberger.
Eirene, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
GIT Mom is 4 years old. My very good friend Lisa inspired me to start the business – she actually pushed me into it by accident, and I often joke that she was my last free client! Her first son was not a sleeper and Lisa really had no clue how to survive. When she was pregnant with her second child, she literally begged me to help her, so I said really straightforwardly, “I will only help you if you promise you will listen and take my advice.” She said “yes! yes! yes!” Fast forward to her baby turning 4 months old, and she was sleeping through the night and on a regular 3 nap schedule. My friend Lisa exclaimed,”This is amazing, it’s so easy, I can’t believe how calm she is, you need a business!” GIT Mom was born!
The sad truth is that a lot of moms are unhappy – research shows that half of America’s 82 million moms are unhappy because they’ve turned themselves into being mommy 24/7. I realized I had a special talent for raising kids, yet maintaining my own life without feeling guilty, and I wanted to share my tricks and secrets with other moms so they can be happy too.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest challenge as a mompreneur has been technology. Before GIT Mom began I wasn’t even on Facebook or any other social media platform. Now I am on numerous platforms and have my own website. I will be honest, technology has really stressed me out in the past, but I’ve overcome many of the hurdles by hiring experts to teach me what to do. Once I learned how to manage and post on social media I felt a lot more comfortable, and my following grew organically. GIT Mom really took off! I am really happy I spent several years managing my clients on top of growing my brand awareness through social media. It made me grow as a business person, and now I’m happy to pass the torch.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about GIT Mom – what should we know?
GIT Mom is a 1:1 personal parent coaching business. We work with moms in their homes or by Skype to solve any parenting issues they are struggling with. We begin with a free 15-minute call by phone to learn more about the challenges they’re facing, then we set a time to meet again and we provide very straightforward 1-2-3 steps customized to the family’s individual needs. Our most popular parenting topic is sleep training, then it’s getting babies on a schedule, followed by getting mommy ready to go back to work. However, we also cover topics such as introducing a new sibling to the family, toddler discipline and easing power struggles between mom and dad. We cover such a diversity of issues!
GIT Mom is unique because our primary focus is on mom’s needs and helping her understand that if she takes care of her needs first, she will raise happy confident children. Confident moms raise confident kids because they provide a strong backbone for the entire family, and kids feel safe when they are raised in a calm structured home.
I help moms Get-It-Together through a 7-step system I created. It starts with sleep training and family schedule. We sleep train children from 2 months to 6 years old and then help families create the best schedules with the end goal of carving out happy mommy time. At GIT Mom we provide parenting strategies that empower parents. We pride ourselves on giving parents the confidence boost they need to stay motivated and carry through our 7-step plan.
The system always ends with happy mommy time! By carving out time for themselves and their own needs and identity, mothers are more able to parent confidently, which helps children thrive not only now, but, as they get older too. Subsequently, moms get to maintain their own guilt-free life because their children are happy.
What are you most proud of as a company?
I’m really proud that I created an entirely new brand with a message that resonates with every single mom in the world. I am approached daily asking if I am GIT Mom! The brand is authentic as it is based around the success I’ve had in my own life raising happy children who people actually like, while also maintaining my own identity. Because I AM my brand, I have been able to raise three boys, maintain a happy marriage, live a full life in the city of Chicago, and inspire moms to Get It Together! I did this and I’m very proud of myself.
What sets you apart from others?
GIT Mom is the only parent coaching business in the country that focuses on the happiness of mom, rather than kids. We feel strongly that whether a mother works or not, she is the backbone of the family, and when she feels confident and happy so are her children.
What’s your favorite memory from childhood?
Travel! I grew up in a very small town in Wisconsin, with a population of 10,000 so my parents felt it was important to expose me and my sister to other cities and cultures through travel. They wanted us to see new places and have adventures, as they knew we would grow through these experiences. I am grateful to be able to pass this on to my children. We are on the road many times a year. Travel develops patience and social skills, and deepening children’s understanding of diversity and the world around them.
