The 3 founders, Jen, Lauren and Lindsey, started as neighbors, bonded over the birth process and motherhood, then became dear friends and business partners to The Birth Boutique. With over 6 years of experience in the Chicago birth community, they set out on a mission to help support women and families as they navigate their journey through pregnancy, birth and early parenthood.
They started their business providing birth doula support and family photography. They’ve since grown to opening up their own shop – nestled on a quaint street in the Arts District of Oak Park, they wanted to create a business that makes it easy, affordable and convenient for moms and new families to get the information and support they need about pregnancy, birth and early parenthood. Located in Oak Park and serving the Chicago area, they offer birth and postpartum doula support, photography services, workshops and retail gifts for mom and baby.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We are really fortunate to have 3 owners/friends in this together. We face the struggles together and have each other for support and guidance.
Creating and opening a brick and mortar shop of your own is no small task and we certainly faced our fair share of obstacles. We are so proud to now call this space our own.
The birth work itself certainly comes with challenges (on-call hours, long shifts, etc.). But together, we’ve built a support system for each other so that both our business and our own families thrive.

We specialize in personalized care and support for women throughout pregnancy, birth and early parenthood. Our services range from birth doula support, postpartum doula support, family photography, childbirth education, family-centered workshops and classes as well as mom and baby gifts/essentials.
At The Birth Boutique, we believe strongly in the power of well-informed & confident families as they navigate their way through birth & parenthood. It is our mission to help inform women & families of their birth options & then support them in their individual choices. The truth is, all women and families deserve support throughout this incredibly life-changing time. Part of our mission at The Birth Boutique is to provide unbiased, nonjudgmental and continuous support throughout pregnancy, birth and the early days of motherhood. We want women and families to know that support is available no matter what kind of birth you’re preparing for.
We are unique in our ability to offer growing families a one-stop shop for so many different needs throughout their journey. It’s an honor each and every time we are invited in – whether it’s through our education, our support, our wellness classes or in our photography services!
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
It would’ve been taking the plunge to open up our shop earlier. It’s been an incredible opportunity for us in terms of exposure but as with any big decision, it took us quite some time to take that brave step forward.
We initially envisioned a space that could hold multiple different practitioners – creating even more services and offerings for our customers. While it wasn’t a possibility for us to move into that space initially, it’s certainly still part of the dreams.
