Brittany, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The concept of 9TwentyEight came to be about 2 years ago, shortly after I received my real estate license. I’ve always had an interest in commercial property rather than residential property. Being a realtor, I also took note of the current norm of living situations. Many of my clients opted for a condo/compact lifestyle which makes it difficult for them to entertain. Taking all of this into consideration, the concept of 9TwentyEight was formed. My business concept is much different from a typical banquet in a sense of it allows clients to host their various events in an intimate setting. I provide a more modern look and feel in the space along with a level of hospitality that makes each guest feel welcomed and comfortable.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has not always been smooth. Like all new businesses we’ve had quite a few bumps in the road but one thing I can say for sure is that I have been blessed beyond my wildest dreams. Each and every obstacle I have encountered has been surpassed and I have witnessed God literally place blessings in my lap.

9TwentyEight is an event venue located near the west loop in Chicago. The business was named by a dear friend of mine and comes from my birthday (September 28th), because as she puts it, “I don’t know anyone who takes their birthday more serious than you do.” Boy was she right! The same pride I put into making sure I celebrate my life every year, I put into making sure each event is special and memorable.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I recently purchased a second location which is a home, where I plan to have mini mansion style events. I would like continue to expand and make 9TwentyEight a lifestyle brand with various rental locations for people to host various events as well as just relax.
