Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Novakowski.
Carrie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Appease Inc. just celebrated 15 years in business this last June! We emerged in 2003 as Appease Massage on the cutting edge of mobile service providers and offered on-location chair and table massage. The company was conceptualized in 2002 by me and my Aunt. My Auntie, unfortunately, couldn’t pursue the endeavor as she and my Uncle had decided to move to Arizona. She gave me an envelope with $250 and wished me the best. I took that envelope and my college marketing class knowledge made a website, designed and printed as many brochures as I could for $250. Today, the company offers personal and corporate massage, nails, aesthetics, and hair and makeup services. Mostly catering to brides and their bridal parties.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No! I did receive one piece of advice from my attorney when I started out though that pushed me through it. He said if you’re going to own your own business, you’re going to have to work your tail off for the next 5 years. After 5 years, you’ll have a clear picture of success or be able to decide if you need to move on. For the first 5 years, I did just that, worked my tail off and never said no. I walked through every door of opportunity. Learned from my mistakes and basked in the successes. When the road got rough and I felt like giving up or questioned if I was pursuing the right dream, I asked my self… is it the 5-year mark yet? At the end of year five, there was no stopping me.

Appease Inc. specializes in bridal beauty services. The wedding industry is flooded with so much talent in the beauty category. I think what sets us apart from others and I am most proud of is our amazing team and longevity in the industry. Our reviews and portfolios speak for themselves.
So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
I think the only challenges women face today are the ones they allow to be a challenge. Opportunities are endless. Be you. Be bold. Be brave.
