Today we’d like to introduce you to Jon Schiff.
Jon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We believe in building community through food, opening our first store in August 2014 in Old Town Chicago. Our team has focused on sourcing the best most nutrient dense ingredients available, because not only do they taste better but they are better for you. We’ve grown as a company from one store to fourteen in just under four years in large part because of the awesome team and culture we have developed over the years.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As we continue to grow, the biggest challenge is to maintain culture. As we grow the team we look for team members that share similar passions and purpose. With people the backbone of our business its so important we build teams that share the same purpose and passion that we first started with.
Real Good Stuff Co – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We know our farmers. We currently buy 1,000 pounds of kale a week from Marty Travis at Spence Farm in Fairbury, IL. Our berries, which we buy over 1500 pounds a week of, come from Abby at Mick Klug Farm in St Joseph, MI. We know our farmers and we know their practices. When we talk about real food, we’re talking about the partners we work with to source that amazing nutrient dense food. It’s the same produce many of the top chefs at your favorite restaurants in the city source, and we are very proud of that.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Our team has grown, and we’ve become a more mature business. It really is a funny thing to say, when your initial intent was one store sourcing from one farmers market in Old Town, Chicago. But the core values remain the same and so does our intent. I’m very proud of that. I’m also proud to see the amazing growth of our team members. Whether its buying a new car, or sending money back home to their families, I’m very proud of the growth we have had as a company and the effects it has on our team.
