Check out Dana Bloede’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Bloede.

Dana, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Captivated by forests, most of my paintings have a serene narrative with a soulful message. My paintings are poetic, expressive and intentionally aged to obtain an old world charm. I like anything vintage or antique so I try to put a lot of texture and distress into the work that I create. I want you to feel you’ve discovered a relic from your grandmother’s attic. When I’m not painting, I like to share my love of art by teaching arts & crafts to seniors, volunteering and traveling with my husband and son. I paint every day with a grateful heart & firmly believe kindness is always the answer. When you buy my paintings, you are buying a powerful piece of survival, healing and triumph.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I create painterly, folk inspired portraits. My paintings are poetic, expressive and intentionally aged to obtain an old world charm. I like anything vintage or antique. I love to incorporate texture and found inspirational poems, word and mismatched text. Ideally, I’d like the viewer to feel like they have discovered a relic found in their grandmother’s attic.

The stereotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
Most of my artist friends have day jobs. Personally I supplement my income by teaching portrait classes at Chicago and suburban libraries. I am always so busy that I don’t have time to worry about getting rich. I think if you keep painting, learning, practicing and stay open to criticism, you will become successful over time. I started an Etsy shop and the first year I had no sales. Now I have almost 500. Persistence and hard work pay off. Constantly marketing your work and getting involved with the community really helps an Etsy shop grow. Some people open a shop and expect a million sales. No. You really have to hustle!

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
