Today we’d like to introduce you to Caroline DeVillo.
Caroline, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Undergrad – University of Illinois Urbana-Champagne – BA Marketing of Textiles and Apparel. FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising – AA in Fashion Design
I started in costume design for film and stylist for TV.
Moved back to Chicago to start a bridal line. Had a store in Bucktown for almost 10 years. 4 years ago, Nordstrom picked up the line so I closed my retail store. Gowns are available at Michigan Avenue Nordstrom, Oakbrook Nordstrom and Veiled in Elegance in Geneva, IL.
Has it been a smooth road?
Having a small business is never a totally smooth road. There are ups and downs along the way. One thing I learned was to do things right the first time, and not rely on deals when you get started. It may cost more, but you will eventually need to do it anyhow.

I design and manufacture couture bridal gowns. I use only silks and natural fibers in my gowns. Each gown is made to order from my line and is made in Chicago. I specialize in customizations.
I have a line called ID which stands for Individual Design. This line allows the bride to customize their gown. They can choose necklines, skirt shapes, fabrics and sashes. This allows the bride to create their own look from a variety of options.
I am most proud of having happy customers. To be a part of one of the biggest days in their lives is truly humbling.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Chicago is a great place to start in fashion. New York is saturated with fashion, but you have more opportunity to make a name for yourself in Chicago.
