Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryon Finke.
Bryon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
MarketSquare was created to address a personal need I experienced in the market: new furniture is quite expensive and a reliable process to buy (and sell) used furniture online did not really exist. Recognizing there is as much value, if not more, in seamless physical handling of product and there is in consolidated digital marketing, MarketSquare was born. MarketSquare is a locally-centric, digital furniture marketplace integrated with professional logistics, warehousing and customer service.
Has it been a smooth road?
The most challenging obstacles in most any endeavor is generally the most valuable. There is considerable value for MarketSquare customer in our end-to-end consignment service that includes integrated logistics and warehousing; we handle the physical aspects of each transaction, in addition to the digital marketing and communication. Building processes to provide cost-effective and reliable logistics and warehousing has been our most significant challenge. We are a fully bootstrapped company and warehouse space is rather expensive. With our move into a large warehouse and retail facility in May 2017, we are confident in our ability to provide this valuable service to our customers.
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the MarketSquare story. Tell us more about the business.
MarketSquare is Chicago’s first end-to-end, online furniture consignment marketplace. We offer products and services to buy & sell gently used and new furniture, local to the Chicago market. Our buyer services include real-time access to our available inventory, online ordering and white-glove delivery as soon as next day. Our solution provides consumers with the same reliable retail experience they would expect from new furniture retails, but offers gently used pieces at valuable prices. In addition to viewing our professional item photos online, buyers have the option to see specific items in-person in our Bridgeport warehouse. Our seller services include scheduled item pickup, restoration, professional item photography, warehousing and real-time item status updates. We sell items on consignment; sellers receive payment once an item is sold.
What role has luck played in your life and business?
I don’t generally believe in luck, although several unplanned occurrences have played a role in our continued success. Most of these occurrences include new relationships throughout the community that have bought valuable advice, information and services to our company.
