Meet Diksha Gandhi, Antonio Martinez, and Prashanth Rama Reddy of Enevole in West Loop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diksha Gandhi, Antonio Martinez, and Prashanth Rama Reddy.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Struggle brings out the best in us. We were at a point where our personal and artistic lives felt like they were at a standstill. We were broke and we had to support ourselves financially. We thought that we could sell paintings and pay our bills at first, we started selling paintings on vinyl records and on canvas. We wanted to provide unique and personalized art pieces to those who want and appreciate art but also make art available where it wasn’t. The first month we sold a total of 1 record and made $40. With the first $40 we made, we bought more paint markers and records. We made investments from what we earned by selling our art. From there, we started considering photography. We had a camera and saw abundant requests for photography and realized the need and demand for it. 5 months after officially registering the company we are providing photography to about 10-12 clients per week. Today, we offer a variety of artistic services that range from painting murals to photography to logo design. We currently have artists on our team who specialize in those kinds of services.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been everything but a smooth road. We have not had any investors or sponsors so everything we have from equipment to inventory is something we have bought and built overtime by ourselves. There is no question that experience is the best teacher and we definitely learn from it. Several times we didn’t have money for rent. One of our family member passed away and that was the biggest challenge which also affected us financially in unimaginable ways. The struggle is never-ending just like the pain we feel in our hearts every single day but obstacles like this is what makes us work harder and better.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Enevole – what should we know?
Enevole is an arts company that aims on becoming the “one-stop for all art needs”. We are a united team of artists who provide services such as photography, paintings, videography, logo design and much more. We as a company are about finding that edge of balance where we are connected to our clients personally yet keep a very professional attitude at the same time.

We are not very fond of the working world. The need for interviews, resumes, minimum of 2 years of working experience, recommendations, and degrees in order to get hired is often tedious and unfair. All of these labels and requirements created by this society is something we want to break. When hiring we consider both talent and work ethic, not a resume. We don’t look at resumes, we offer a month long paid opportunity for the artist to show us their work ethic and skills. At the end of that month, we make a hiring decision and other details such as their compensation.

We want to create opportunities for people that bring out the best in them artistically. To cultivate a working environment where creativity flourishes while encouraging strong work ethics is our motto. As far as our pricing goes, we don’t have a price sheet, we ask our clients the budget they are comfortable with and serve them accordingly. This is what separates us from others. Sometimes, we barely breakeven since a client may be working with a tight budget but to understand that at the end of the day it is about art and about providing people who might not have the most amount of resources with the best and high-quality photography and other services. This is what we never want to stop doing.

Slowly, we realized the amount of talent around us that was going to waste. We were surrounded by artists who have thousands in student loan debt and saw the struggle they go through but never give up on their art. What sets us apart is that we are willing to look beyond numbers, labels and documents. We have hired high school students and paid them 30% more than minimum wage because they are talented and age should not affect that.

We are proud of the fact that we are not commercialized artists. As photographers, for example whenever we are at a birthday party, we take pictures as if that was our own little sister or brother. We go far and beyond what may be considered usual boundaries to ensure that our clients are 100% happy and satisfied. Whether that means staying extra time for no cost or giving them more retouched images, we are ready to do it. We take pride in the fact that we provide the best art services to every client who hires us regardless of the price they hire us for.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
We are grateful to our family for inspiring and supporting us throughout this journey.
