Meet Trailblazer Ashley Mosby

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Mosby.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ashley. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started in the salon industry at the young age of 16 as a shampoo girl in a small suburban salon. After graduating high school I immediately started in cosmetology school, and the rest is history! I hopped around over the past 10 years to a few different salons, but ultimately found my home here in the heart of Chicago l.

The past five years I’ve called Blueberry Moon Salon Spa home. I was brought on as the salon coordinator, not working behind the chair, however my passion for the best of me and soon after I was hands on again. Taking that short time out really solidified my love for my industry and the need to immerse myself in every way possible.

This spring I spread my wings even further and I was brought into the Cool Beauty Consulting family via the brand REF. I now freelance as a color and style educator for their brand. As a passionate advocate for furthering one’s self, this really helps to hone my people skills, passion of educating people, as well as love for natural beauty products.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Getting burnt out on your same day ins and outs is very easy. For myself in particular, I took a step back from working behind the chair doing hair but still remaining in the industry in a difference facet. It put into perspective what my true goals and passions were.

Always remember to take a step back, a deep breath and try and see the bigger picture. I also am a huge believer that further education or experience helps keep the spark of creativity burning!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Tiny Fox Hair – what should we know?
I specialize in women’s hair, both cut and color. I also am the in house guru of all things hair extensions, my personal obsession!

The salon I work for and the brand I educate with have made me so incredibly aware and excited about the importance of natural beauty products. There’s a whole world of amazing natural ingredients that help heal your hair and skin, and most importantly don’t test on animals.

Learning to meld these two, both natural beauty and being a service provider has been the pivotal part of my career. I love being able to have these tools to create the best hair that I can that is also in its healthiest state. There’s no need to sacrifice one for the other.

Educating has also been a very proud moment for me. I work with other professional stylists and salons, and knowing I can leave by helping them better themselves is extremely rewarding.

Which women have inspired you in your life?
There have been SO many positive strides in my industry over the past few years. The online community of stylist, specifically women has turned into a supportive, sharing and encouraging community.

Both Larissa Love and Heather Chapman have been really groundbreakers in our industry by furthering themselves by helping educate other stylists. They value what they know but want to help out community as a whole with what they know and learn.

I also work for a female owned small business. Having a strong female leader in my daily live is inspiring as well to always do better for myself.
