Today we’d like to introduce you to Maureen Kelley.

Maureen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always been involved in taking care of my skin since I was young. It has been a path from modeling to working for Lancome for many years. Learning about skin care has always being part of the process. Over the past 13 years I have worked as a medical esthetician for dermatologists and plastic surgeons. A medical esthetician is a skin care specialist focusing on repair and rejuvenation of skin from aging, sun damage, environmental damage, injury or trauma. Through this experience, I was always looking for an all-natural product that would help heal skin faster and more effectively. My husband had been treating eczema with a solution of zinc and amino acids that has been very effective. It was his alternative to steroids since they can cause damage to your skin over time and even cause Cushings disease. Based on my experience and his, we worked on a formula that was based on feeding the skin zinc at a cellular level. Basically delivering zinc where it is needed to rebuild the structure of the skin. Most people are zinc deficient resulting in skin problems and slow healing. This is because foods that contain bio-available zinc are not part of most diets today. This includes oysters, whole milk, grass fed beef, dark nuts and dark leafy greens.

After working on many different formulas with a chemist and trials with friends and family, we came up with Epizyn. Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Launching a skin product is very difficult because it is such a crowded market with thousands of products with many of claims and a lot of misinformation. Trying to educate people about their skin condition and how to treat it on a therapeutic basis is quite a mission. Generally people go to their doctor or the internet to find a solution. Just type ‘eczema treatment’ in Google and it’s a little scary what comes up! It’s hard to tell the snake oil from good products. There are many good products and many serve specific needs such as pain relief or anti- itch. We try to separate ourselves as an all-natural healing agent and alternative to long term topical steroids as a therapeutic treatment for long term and chronic conditions. This isn’t always easy! A few years back there was a product called SkinZinc that was sold widely as all natural on the radio and TV, but after great success, it was found that the product contained steroids. That kind of publicity is bad for the whole industry and leads to more misinformation. We now own their old domain name and steer people to the right information and an all-natural product.

Please tell us about Epizyn Skin Care.
Epizyn now makes six different versions of Epizyn- Original formula that is great for all skin issues, Lidocaine version for painful skin issues such as burns, abrasions, wounds and sensitive skin, and Camphor for swelling and allergic issues such as bug bites, poison ivy, reaction to dyes, for calming the skin. Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?

We would take road trips to different states like Kansas, Texas, and the East Coast to see the countryside. It was great spending long stretches of quality time with my parents. I wish I could capture that time, the smell of the fresh air and conversations that only a child has with their parents on a long road trip. Although, I don’t miss Denny’s or Perkins!
