Today we’d like to introduce you to Melinda Hurley.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Melinda. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Nothing says kids like Oreos, Jell-O and Mac & Cheese and that is the world I came from – Kraft Heinz knows the value of providing products that are delicious, reliable, easy and safe. My job was to make sure that Kraft stayed in touch with the folks who used Kraft products on a daily basis with a special eye on developing new products or new ways that families could enjoy existing products.
Meanwhile my husband of 18 years, Jim who had been a stay at home dad for the past decade, was chomping at the bit looking for a way to build a great business that could be a family business and provide income now, into our retirement, and even potentially be an avenue for our children to build on in years to come. Jim especially was looking closely at a number of franchise businesses that would fit his work background in business development and project management.
We came across Party Princess Productions at the end of 2016 and found that it was the perfect timing, a great business model, and perfect for our family values. I had recently left Kraft so Jim and I would both be available to shoulder the work of developing a new business together! Plus, my background at Kraft provided the perfect understanding of the value of delivering a great experience to families. Jim’s time as a full-time Dad with project and sales skills has made him a great feet-on-the ground compliment to my skills.
We closed with Party Princess Productions corporate in January of 2017 and Party Princess Productions – Chicago was a go! We haven’t looked back since!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Our road has just begun, but we’re excited about the opportunities that have come to us and have been very pleased at the reception we’ve had. We’ve found some great performers who are trained in acting, improvisation, and singing who do a great job in making our characters come alive for children. Our costumes are custom made by designers with movie backgrounds which, of course, has just added to the caliber of our performances. And that is a really great place to be. Operationally, the support of the franchise system has helped get us up and running quickly. Our challenge ahead will be fine-tuning our business model and continuing to deliver more smiles to more people as we grow.

Party Princess Productions provides high-end birthday party character entertainment, princess parties, super hero parties and many other character themed parties. Specializing in singing princesses like Cinderella, Rapunzel or Snow White, we also provide a wide variety of other characters who can come to your house or other venues across Chicagoland. Our custom costumes and quality performers deliver a truly authentic performance that will delight and engage children and adults. Our characters face paint, sing, play games and pose for pictures. We also do corporate events like grand openings and special presentations for businesses and charities that engage with families. We’ve even had characters officiate at weddings! Because we strive to deliver great customer experiences, we invest in high quality, custom costumes, fantastic performers, and great customer service.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Since the business is just getting started, I’m looking forward to building it for many years to come. I’m excited to provide wholesome and engaging entertainment for families everywhere in the Chicago area.
