Meet Michael Wade Johnson of Faux Pas Films in Northwest Indiana

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Wade Johnson.

Faux Pas Films began its formation in mid-2007 on the rural grounds of southern Kentucky/northern Tennessee. Formed with a goal of creating low budget indie horror films, Michael spearheaded the company and began a career working in video and DVD. Faux Pas Films would go on to and continues to produce and distribute their roster of movies. Production of the first movie “Brimstone” began in October of 2007 in Moss, TN, and Tompkinsville, KY. It played in festivals the following year. From there, the company has filmed various projects in Chicago, Nashville, Elmwood Park, Bowling Green, Hammond, and many other locations. These movies have played many festivals and were released on DVD, VOD, and some on Blu-ray. Through hard work and tenacity, Michael and Faux Pas Films have continued to produce independent films and have worked with some of the most talented indie actors and filmmakers in the area.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are tremendous challenges every time you begin a film project. Where to get the budget, where to shoot locations, and who to cast in your film can all be an uphill climb. While some shoots have been smoother than others, all come with their own set of obstacles. Sometimes, the weather plays a part. Scheduling and no-shows force you to think on your feet. It really enhances your skills at problem-solving. Even the best pre-production can go awry, so the main ability you learn is to adapt and roll with the changes.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Faux Pas Films – what should we know?
Faux Pas Films is a Chicagoland based independent video production company specializing in horror. We are known mostly for producing micro-budget horror movies and working with other companies that make an indie film. I am the founder of the company and along the way, I have dabbled in every aspect of the movie-making process. From writing, directing, and producing to editing, special effects, and cinematography, I have been involved in it all. I am ecstatic that we were able to build this company from scratch and carry it with the momentum to continue making movies for over ten years now.

Faux Pas Films differentiates itself from the pack by being a north company with southern roots and by being a company that can operate on a very small skeleton crew.

Perseverance is the thing that keeps the company going. They say you are only as good as your last film, so we just push on through the hills and valleys of success.
