Art & Life with Audrey Wancket

Today we’d like to introduce you to Audrey Wancket.

Audrey, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
When I was a little girl, I was drawn to paintings of people, especially children. Even at an early age, whether watching a movie or being dragged to museums, I would feel that person in the painting must be very important and how much the mother or father must love that child to have that painted and displayed in those beautiful homes. How loved they must feel. How special they are. These portrait paintings were so beautiful that they would be passed down from generation to generation. I knew that this is what portraits of children and family should mean to my clients-this is the power and self-esteem they would instill in their children.

Early in my professional photographic career, I studied and studied both paintings and photographs-What the paintings had was beautiful lighting-I knew that I could and would figure out how to capture that lighting in photographic portraits- the other characteristic that I saw in these paintings was dignity. Everyone deserves this in their homes and lives. And so, my journey of portraying my subjects in this manner began. Here is where my journey came to life-This is what my photography and art is based upon.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I create portraits with great depth and luminosity whether a museum styled portrait or a casual style requires more than “a good camera “and basic painting skills. It is from studying light, and lighting techniques, understanding color and composition and how these combined can bring out the beauty and dignity of each subject. It is the culmination of education and practicing my craft every day. The camera is only one of the mediums used to begin a “Wancket” mixed media portrait. I blend old and new techniques to create these timeless enduring pieces of art.

My clients inspire my creativity, and what I see in my mind’s eye when I meet them. Each portrait has its own to story tell. I create the story backdrop and the direction that enables my clients’ stories to unfold, capturing real moments and emotions that pull viewers into each and every portrait. What my clients tell me is that When they work with me there is such a difference in the entire experience. From helping them choose clothing with styles that will help them look their best to the colors of the clothing married with my backgrounds that will enhance the decor in the rooms their final portrait is displayed. I am told that my patience with children or a difficult tween or teen is unwavering. Clients truly cherish the beauty, quality and enduring style of a “wancket portrait”.

Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
My motto and my best advice is simply “Never settle for good enough”. The lessons I wish I had learned earlier would have been to study and learn about business, marketing and sales.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My work is created specifically for each client. I have a website with galleries of my work on it and also have many samples on Social media sites. I do have my work displayed in a couple of hospitals and surgeon’s offices and of course in homes across the country. I also have many portraits on display in my studio as well.
