Meet Chris Mastroianni of Master Johnny

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Mastroianni.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my business in 2008 to accommodate bringing my kids to and from school. My previous job as a security system technician did not allow for that. I was handy, so I started a handy man business. One of my customers asked if I could build a 16′ wide X 8′ high built-in consisting of cabinets on the bottom with bookcases on top, complete with fancy moldings and back lit led lights. I had some knowledge of cabinet building as my dad did it as a hobby. What I didn’t know, I read in books or watched videos on You Tube. He was so impressed that he hired me to build his bed made with exotic wood, 2 desks, and various other projects. He referred me to other people and my finish carpenter skills grew and got me to where I am now.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was, for the most part, a smooth ride. I have lost a lot of money underbidding. Learning how to estimate properly is a constant struggle.

Please tell us about Master Johnny.
I am the owner of a finish carpenter company. I build custom built-ins, furniture, fireplace mantles, beds, desks, kitchens, staircases, decks, pergolas, install moldings and doors, etc. I am proud of providing a service to people looking for a craftsman. I do things right the first time and always please my clients, well 99.9% of the time.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Helping my dad on projects. He was always happy to let me help. I wish my kids would do the same.
