Meet Jennifer Betzen of MidWest Women Network in North Side

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Betzen.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I founded MidWest Women Network soon after the contentious Presidential election of 2016 because the country needed to stop shouting and start listening to each other. I wanted to talk with other women to see what they were thinking and feeling, and I wanted to connect women across the MidWest – from the cities, suburbs and small towns.

MidWest Women Network was formed to achieve all of those goals. First, MidWest Women Network is a platform for women to get together and talk about whatever is on their minds. But just as important is the idea that women don’t have to identify with any particular political party to be a part of the Network. We are non-partisan, inclusive and friendly and we want to support women in whatever they want to accomplish in their personal or professional life.

I worked as a journalist for nearly a decade and I am tapping my skills in writing and listening in this endeavor. And as a former small-town girl who has lived in Chicago since college, I am also searching to bridge the divide between the urban and the rural MidWestern woman.

Has it been a smooth road?
MidWest Women Network creates a welcoming environment for all women, and all the positive energy I get from the members has been uplifting. It can be frightening to put yourself out there and start a conversation. I am constantly amazed that women are brave enough to share their stories at meetings.

To be in a room full of women who are supportive and want to really listen is empowering. And our members come from all walks of life, from Millennials to stay-at-home moms to working women and retirees. They talk about the times they were discriminated against in the workplace, or how frustrated they are with the negative tones of national conversations.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with MidWest Women Network – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The MidWest Women Network is a non-partisan, grassroots sororal organization that promotes the health, safety, and liberty of women everywhere, and in particular the women of the MidWest United States.

MidWest Women Network is political but non-partisan. Politics has become shouting and crossfire, and no one is listening. Our members want women to develop personal and professional friendships and become an engaged member of the community.

MidWest Women Network members’ voices will not shout, but together we will amplify the voice of MidWest Women so others will know our needs and concerns. Whether you are running your own small business, working for a paycheck or your current job is a mother, the Network can link you with resources to help you accomplish your goals and connect you to a community.

We are organized by Chapters, and we have several operating around Illinois and Indiana. Our NorthWest Chicago Chapter meets regularly and we are always looking for new members to add voices to the conversation.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The people who live in Chicago are amazing! Chicago is an opening and welcoming city and I have met so many wonderful women with inspiring stories who are willing to lend a helping hand to other women.

The only dislike may be a few days in Chicago when the weather is sub-zero. But the fantastic summer and fall more than make up for that.
