Today we’d like to introduce you to Vickie Apostolopoulos.
Vickie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was always into makeup and playing around with it but fully started turning my hobby into a career when I turned 18. I found Jaclyn Hill on YouTube and she helped teach me so much when it came to starting out, which brushes to buy, how to blend eyeshadow, etc.
I wanted to take my artistry to the next level and then started working for MAC cosmetics. After freelancing with them, I would practice as much as I could with open ears for any tips I could get and be open to learning anything new. I believe artists are constantly evolving and always willing to be open to learning more and more to master their craft. Everyone does their craft differently and I loved studying different techniques and different peoples point of view in artistry. I started freelancing on my own and working for myself and my clients are why I absolutely love my job. Whether it’s doing special effects makeup for Halloween, or makeup for a magazine, or being apart of doing makeup for a bride and her bridal party, every brush stroke and every bit of my passion exudes in what I do. I am blessed to be doing what I love to do and putting smiles on peoples faces and making them truly feel beautiful.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My path was definitely interesting starting out!
I was in college when I was starting out with MAC and makeup and ended up dropping out of school. I didn’t think it was for me and wanted to fully pursue makeup because that truly was my passion. My parents at first didn’t agree but ended up seeing how much I absolutely love what I do and softened up. People around me didn’t agree with me dropping out of school as well and didn’t believe in my dream- but I believe if you’re lucky enough to recognize what your calling is and what you absolutely love to do, grasp that.
I did! So now, I’m a full time working freelancer blessed to be doing what I absolutely love to do.
My advice to anyone is that follow your dreams and take a chance on yourself because YOU are worth it. I took a chance on myself and told myself, even if I don’t make it as a makeup artist, at least I tried and gave myself a shot. Take that chance so you never look back and regret anything. Hard work and believing in yourself are two things that’ll never lead you the wrong way.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with @queeenveee – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I work as a full time freelancing makeup artist. Most people know me from my Instagram and that’s more so being a “beauty influencer” I specialize in all kinds of makeup but lean more towards glam.
I believe what sets me apart is my humbleness and wanting every single one of my clients to exude happiness from beginning to end of an application. I want to build a relationship with my clients because I believe makeup is so personal and I want to get to know you better.
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
My advice to women starting out is to never give up on your dreams and take a chance on yourself because YOU are worth it!
