Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariana Memishi.
Ariana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a child, my mom would pull out a makeup product from her bag, like an eyeliner or lipstick, and I’d point to wear it went on her face. If only my little self knew back then how much makeup will impact my life. I’ve started off by simply applying makeup to everyone and anyone. Whether it was my friends or the neighbors, I’d practice on someone. For example, high school prom came along, and being the angst teen I was, I decided not to go and do people’s makeup instead. I wasn’t confident at all, yet I wanted to make others feel beautiful on this special day. Fast-forward to now, I’m 24 and still passionate as ever about artistry. The best feeling in the entire world is having others feel great about themselves. It may not even be from the makeup application, but rather the overall experience. It is my ultimate goal to inspire. I want my client to exude their confidence and flaunt it however they like. By making others feel beautiful, it reflects. Ultimately, I feel beautiful when others feel beautiful. It doesn’t have to be by outer appearance, I’m talking about the genuine beauty that is inside all of us. That’s what truly beautiful.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey into the beauty industry is tough. Competition surrounds you and can easily influence one on the wrong path. It is easy to lose yourself. My advice to others is to never give up and to always learn. Simply, always be the student. You can be the blending master, but that cannot mean you’re unable to learn new techniques. As for young women who are just starting their journey, you’re already close to your goal by simply starting. Every journey in life has challenges, but self-reflection is key to success and growth. Never lose sight of that and yourself.
what should we know about your business? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a makeup artist. I’ve been doing makeup for 8 years, whether it was freelance work or for specific brands. I’m known for blending and enhancing features. For example, my go-to look consists of a blended, bronze eye with chiseled cheeks and a glossy lip. I feel like what makes me unique from other artists is my blending technique. I start off small and work my way up if needed. I like makeup to radiate beauty from the inside and match one’s personality.
Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
My family is first-generation Albanians, so my mom was always working to provide for my brother and I. When I was 8, I had to wake myself up for school and make my own lunch. Overall, I had to grow up from a young age. I needed to be self-sufficient in order to succeed.
