Today we’d like to introduce you to Judiee Lee.
Judiee, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
After receiving my BFA in graphic design, I stumbled into teaching pre-school art (a place I refer to as “munchkinland”). During my stint there, I was inspired to Kickstart two children’s books about art, one about Monet and another about Picasso. Since then, I’ve taught design and creativity classes at my local makerspace. Currently I’m working on creating content for the digital space (YouTube and podcast).
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I really do feel that creativity is important and I feel that more people should be activated in it. During my time being a preschool art teacher, I saw how creativity helped my students reach their greatest potential by being fearless to try things and explore ideas. I feel the same is true for grown-ups. My projects will always be informed / inspired by childhood, and lately I’ve been interested in helping adults find hope and growth through creativity.
Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
I’ve always been fascinated by the internet, and lately there has been a very interesting turn in the type of content that goes viral. Because of our political climate / the audience of the internet growing up a bit, I feel that the content has become more thoughtful and thought provoking. As more people aren’t becoming interested in becoming creators, I think the uniqueness and strength of an artist’s voice is increasingly important.
