Check out Amoz of Art’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amoz of Art.

Amoz, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I come from a small town called Dixmoor which is right outside the southside of Chicago. Not many people have heard of Dixmoor because it’s a low-key town. Not much opportunity there for art. However, I was blessed to be surrounded by an artistic family and amazing support group in my community. My father, Malik Wright, is a carpenter that does amazing work. My mother, Marguerite Wright, is skilled in illustration and graphic design. My brother, Ira Wright, is a talented actor. My youngest brother, Malachi Wright, is also an amazing artist. Though we come from a small town, we all find a way to flourish in our talents. My amazing family and friends continue to inspire me to express myself through my art. If it wasn’t for the support of my family, friends, and community, my artist story wouldn’t exist. These wonderful people have helped me believe that I can be successful as an artist even though many believe it is not a wise career path. It’s been a journey, and I give thanks to God for all my successes.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Recently, my focus has been in graphic design, digital illustration, pastel drawing, and acrylic painting. I just finished a series of five music shows called “The Chicago Mix Tour” with rapper, Ridgio. During the series, I hosted the shows and created live drawings. This was amazing because the people had the exclusive opportunity to experience my artistic process. To me, art is an incredible tool that can be used to start a conversation and invoke various emotions to the viewers. I love to bring joy and I create to help spread joy. I want people to be able to experience my work. I want it to be more than just a three second glance and then a forgotten memory. I hope for my work to be a part of people’s day. Something that lingers on their minds. I hope that I can channel my positive energy through my work to be a light to the world. Ultimately, I hope to spark conversations about the Word of God in my work.

Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
My mom told me that artists are historians. The things that we create will give those in the future an idea of what these times were like in a unique way. I wouldn’t say the role of the artist has changed, but it has definitely grown into something that is available to the rich and the poor alike. People want to hear what artist have to say. We help shape the cultures of the world. Recently I have been more inspired to create from personal events but local, national, and international events can drive the emotions. I look forward to how my art will be affected in the future.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I just recently finished a mural downtown on 55 E Randolph in the Chicago Pedway with Skyler Sun and Sarah Wilson. This mural titled, “Chicago Has My Heart,” gives light to the rising stars of Chicago. This is the first mural to go into the Chicago Pedway and it includes Chance the Rapper!

I also showcase my art often in art shows and galleries throughout the city.
