Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Haid.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
For me, growing up in the 1950’s in Chicago, where there were still open lots and prairries, that was where I first discovered the aesthetics found in nature. I collected bugs and butterflies as a young kid. These experiences are what led me to become a visual artist later on. Patterns, shapes, forms, color and texture are what I explore today after 40 years and still find a deep nourishment from this exploration.
Please tell us about your art.
The comedian Gene Wilder once said at an interview, “I’m not an actor, I’m a re- actor”. Which means he improvised on what he saw, heard and felt during filming. By selecting specific landscape to capture a sensation, mood or feeling, I work intuitively to respond, improvise and play with the interaction of the physical alongside the mechanical world. This is what I want the viewer to be able to notice and experience in my artworks.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
Due to the easy access to Internet sites, and social media it is extremely competitive to get noticed. Also, the fast pace and fast look by the audience is only meant for colorful, provocative and dazzling color which can make other artworks that are more quiet, delicate, sensitive and need time to experience, it makes it hard for certain artists today to not get frustrated.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I have exhibited extensively for over 30 years on a regional and national level. My visual artworks, performances, kinetic interactions and videos can have found on my Facebook under Albums: Joseph Haid Arts
