Today we’d like to introduce you to Camryn Simmons.
Camryn, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I started messing around in photography in 2010 just with a point & shoot camera, but I was gifted my first official DSLR in 2012 by my parents. From that point, that camera never left my side and I was shooting anything and everything I saw. I’ve upgraded cameras, purchased more advanced lenses, and watched too many YouTube videos to count. I only took one photography class in college, but it was more of a refresher course from what I had already taught myself. I graduated with a BA in Business Administration in 2014, and soon after started working at the high school in my hometown. I officially started capturing amazing moments in June of 2014, and I’ve only gone up from there!
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I create images that I hope people “feel” something about. Whether it be a first kiss at a wedding or shedding a few tears after a lost football game, I want my viewers to feel the emotion that I captured in those specific images.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
I think the biggest challenge facing artists today is competition. It seems lately that everyone is buying DSLR cameras, and starting to take photos; whether it be for fun, or for profit. Professionals struggle to make money, when free is more tempting.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
People can check out my work either at my Facebook page “capturing amazing moments” or my Instagram @camrynphoto. I share sneak peeks of almost all of my sessions, as well as share highlights of games. People can also support my work by liking, commenting & sharing my posts. With Facebook & Instagram using algorithms now that limit that you’re used to seeing, it’s beneficial for artists when their traffic is boosted. Liking, commenting & sharing will help more people see my work, and help me market my business for the future.
