Meet Dennis Pyzyna of PY Financial in NW

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dennis Pyzyna.

Dennis, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After I left military service, I worked in the travel industry for airlines and corporate management services. I did a lot of work in setting up meetings for large insurance groups and found that even though I was a vice president at a large company the insurance agents I was moving around were making a lot more money than I was. A senior vice president at New York life suggested I take a look at a career in insurance.

2 years later, I had my own agency and a much better income. I built my business primarily on health insurance, retirement programs for small business owners, and life insurance.

In the 25 years, I have been doing it I found a lot of sanctification and significant financial reward. Now, it is the kind of business one needs never to retire from because the clients I have led to other clients, and the need for coverages is always present.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The first year in the insurance business is brutal. You may have a draw for a few months but if you do not sell you do not earn money. For me, with a wife and 2 kids to support it was a hard jump into the fire to make. After a while, it became easier and enjoyable. Especially, with all the incentive programs and trips insurance companies use to offer.

Government regulation in the form of the affordable care act changed all that, but it did not make earning money harder, it just made certifications more a pain, while making the public pay more for less coverage which actually meant more take-home pay because commissions on higher premiums were better. Now there is a great deal of opportunity in the insurance sales area because there is no young blood out there getting into the sales business

Please tell us about PY Financial.
I service the small business arena. Health, life, disability, sep, 401k, ltc, buy-sells, business continuation, and almost any other coverages a company with 1 to 100 employees needs I can advise them on and secure for them.

I have a great client base which has expanded as clients and their employees have come to trust me to help them with other personal needs.

I have never looked at the commission or how much I earn on a particular case. I work for my clients and their best interest always come first.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Summertime vacations with my family at my uncle’s lake house in southern Wisconsin, bonfires and roasting corn and potatoes and hot dogs in the late evenings.
