Meet Elloo in Heart of Chicago

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elloo.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began my art career roughly about four years ago, but have been practicing my craft since I was a shorty. I painted my first wall in Back of the Yards in 2014 and since then, I have continued this magical journey. More walls and projects came my way and I continued to say yes even if it was unpaid. My art, my monster babies became more well known and I couldn’t stop after that.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Like all careers, pursuing art has had its ups and downs. After I graduated college, I fell into this 1-year plan with jobs outside of art. Since I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, I switched jobs every year, until I finally committed to doing art professionally. It’s a different hustle from everything else I have done. There’s a surprise element as to what is going to fall on my lap and what opportunities that’s going to bring. From time to time, I find myself having art block and that’s always a pain in the ass. Every challenge helps me grow and sets the bar higher to what I can accomplish. It’s been a mysterious journey.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about N/a – what should we know?
I paint magic on walls, panels, canvas and pretty much anything that is paintable. I am known for my bold color usage and my adorable, unsettling monsters. I create these bright, colorful paintings that are meant to bring happiness to the viewer. I consider every monster a part of me and everything that I create is unique. I take time and energy to make an art piece that is a part of my journey. For that reason, I paint something new every time. Being able to create something original is very important to me.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
There’ so many people to thank. Every person that has come in my path deserves some sort of credit. My mother has been a big influence, she helped make me the person I am today. Love her for that and more. My other half, Red has been the greatest supporter, boyfriend, and teammate. He always has the right kind of motivation to push me to be the best. My chihuahua Frida is the best assistant, comfort buddy, and stress reliever. And everyone out there that has bought a painting or has come out to a show to support me. I wouldn’t be where I am without my fans, the people that appreciate my monsters and creativity. Sending mad love to all of you and a big thank you!
