Today we’d like to introduce you to Sifu Freddie Lee.
Sifu Freddie , let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My father raised me with a healthy fit lifestyle. I started playing basketball at the age of 9 until 16 years old. At the age of 16 to 18, I started training in the Martial Arts at Ng’s Family Martial Arts Association in Chicago. I attended Purdue University at 18 years old in 2000. In Purdue from 2000-2004, I operated and ran my own Martial Arts club called “Fighters United.” In the year of 2002, I was introduced to the teachings of Bruce Lee and Eastern Philosophy. At that time, I created my own expression of the Martial Arts and began teaching my own way privately. In the years of 2005 to 2009, I became a Police Officer and continued to train in the Martial Arts as I was working. In the year of 2010, was the time I went public with my Martial Arts teachings and established Freddie’s Modern Kung Fu. For the last 7 years I have been teaching publicly.
Has it been a smooth road?
The first struggle along the way was having to separate from the first and only Martial Arts school I joined due to complications between my parents and my teacher. The next struggle was finding my own way in the Martial Arts. The biggest struggle was suffering from racial discrimination during my time as a Police Officer from 2005 to 2009. The next struggle was having my YouTube channel terminated in 2015, and receiving the information that I was banned for life.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Freddie’s Modern Kung Fu – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I teach Martial Arts as a way of life. I specialize in helping people develop physically, mentally, and spiritually within the context of the Martial Arts. I am known for training to become phenomenally fit, to become super flexible, and very combatively capable. I am known for integrating meditation into my practices of Martial Arts. I am known to be highly inspired by Bruce Lee and his teachings. I am known to be one of the primary Martial Artists of today whom is passing on the wisdom of Bruce Lee in my own unique way. I am most proud of being honest and real in my teachings. I tell it as it is and I train for the streets, I train for survival, but yet we are a school of peace and meditation. I teach the real Martial Arts in this school, free from competition, and that is very rare in the Martial Arts community.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like best about our city is the diversity. What I like least about our city is the crime.
