Meet Patrick Murphy of Pulse Boxing and Fitness in Highland Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Murphy.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My whole life, I have been into health and fitness. Even as a young boy, I would ride my bike to the nearest gym and would watch the boxers and bodybuilders workout. As a young teen, I started to workout myself and never stopped since. In 2005, I joined the Army and served as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. In the Army, I went to the Combative Fighting Schools and fell in love with MMA. When I left the Army in 2009, I began to fight at different venues located around the United States. Simultaneously, I was working as a Personal Trainer at a country club. Personal training became a passion of mine. I was ecstatic to be helping people. It gave me purpose while I was going through a difficult time transitioning back from the military. I saw an opportunity at Lifetime Fitness and left my job at the country club. I worked at Lifetime for 5 years and loved it. I formed many relationships there and it helped me get to where I’m at today. At Lifetime, I was approached to go into business in Highland Park and bring boxing and functional fitness into the community. That was in 2016. Since that day, I have been living my dream ever since. It has always been my dream to own my own business. I get to help people everyday and do something I love. Not many people can say that. Most days, I reflect and give thanks for everything I have. I’m grateful for it and to the community for helping Pulse and my dream thrive.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never a smooth road. I continue to learn every day from my mistakes and challenges. However, I invite these challenges in for they make me stronger. If it was easy everyone would do it.
