Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Davidson.
Taylor, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Beauty is something that I have always had a passion for. Growing up, I had an aunt who did hair and my stepmom was super into makeup. I remember going with my stepmom to Ulta and being there for hours and just looking at everything and playing with the makeup. The makeup artist there knew us by name, LOL. Even then, I would think how cool would it be to have your job to make people feel good, to make them feel beautiful! I graduated high school in 2011, tried the whole college thing for a year and just wasn’t into it. So, after moving from Chicago to California to Denver (my husband was in the military), I went to Aveda Institute Denver and got my cosmetology license.
While in school, I learned that I wanted more hands-on experience with makeup, so on my own, I got my makeup certification. I worked with some amazing people in Denver and I had a lot of hands on experience. I would do my friends makeup and hair and just do photo shoots when there was nothing to do. I always craved it! Then, my husband and I decided to move back to Chicago to be with family, so I just continued my work here. I have met so many people and love what I do. I strive to always keep growing and learning, learning never ends.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think any road is smooth, especially if it’s a dream. You always have to work hard to get where you want to be. I still am working hard, I want to get my name out there and do even bigger things! Just don’t give up, I know it sounds cliche, but the harder you work the more you get in the long run. Keep going!!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Beauty by tee – what should we know?
I do hair and makeup. I have recently been doing more of makeup because throughout the years, I’ve just grown a strong love for it! I do makeup for photo shoots, models, weddings, editorial, etc. anything you need makeup for, I am your girl! 🙂 I am most proud of breaking out of my comfort zone and saying you know what I’m just going to do this, and I did. Everyone starts somewhere. I think connecting with my guest and really getting to know them and their story while I’m providing a service, that’s what sets me apart, because I become friends with a lot of my guests, and I love watching them leave with a smile.
Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
Like I said before, growing up with an aunt who did hair and a stepmom who was and still is makeup obsessed, definitely opened my eyes to the beauty industry.
